Thal Equine Policy During The Covid Crisis

Thal Equine is committed to providing care to horses and people in our region. Veterinary practices are considered "essential businesses" under New Mexico's Covid-19 guidelines. Much of what we do is to treat severe and exigent equine health problems.

Our priority is to protect you, and our staff, while still providing the needed services for your horses.

These operating procedures will be modified as necessary as the situation is constantly changing.

GENERAL OPERATING NOTES

Thal Equine will continue our normal business hours (9am-5pm Monday through Friday and 9am-12noon on Saturday), but with some changes to how we do things.

We will of course do all we can to protect you by wearing PPP ourselves, washing our hands between appointments, maintaining social distance (no handshakes or hugs) and of course having any staff member who is not well stay home.

We will be cleaning our working facility between horses and appointments.

IF YOU ARE NOT FEELING WELL OR HAVE BEEN AROUND SOMEONE WHO IS NOT FEELING WELL, PLEASE CONSIDER RESCHEDULING. OTHERWISE, PLEASE ALERT US TO THE SITUATION SO THAT WE MAY TAKE EXTRA STEPS TO PROTECT OUR STAFF.

REFERRAL SERVICES

We continue to provide referral services to other vets as usual. In some cases, we may all agree to postpone elective procedures, but that will be done on a case by case basis.

FARM CALLS

MOST OF OUR FARM CALLS ARE FOR EMERGENCIES AND MORE URGENT CONCERNS. If you are not sure if your horse's condition qualifies as an emergency please call (505) 438 6590 and Dr. Thal will help you determine that.

If it is after hours select 1 for the emergency line and Dr. Thal will call you to discuss your situation.

For most farm calls we will ask our technician to handle your horse and we will observe social distancing.

CLINIC APPOINTMENTS

PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU WILL BE LATE TO YOUR APPOINTMENT.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT THE CLINIC, PLEASE REMAIN IN YOUR VEHICLE. Someone will come out to talk to you. If nobody greets you, please call our clinic number
505-438-6590.

We will have you unload your horse yourself, then hand your horse over to one of our technicians so that they can handle them for any procedures we
perform. If we are working outside, you can observe from at least 6 feet away. If we take your horse inside the clinic, please wait outside.

PLEASE DO NOT COME INTO THE OFFICE OR BUILDING, OTHER THAN THE RESTROOM. We will bring any necessary paperwork out to you.

IF YOU USE OUR RESTROOM please use the outside entrance which is just around the corner from our reception door.

PLEASE DO USE WHATEVER PPP YOU HAVE. Gloves, masks, etc.

PLEASE DO YOUR PART TO MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCE AT ALL TIMES.

THERE IS HAND SANITIZER BY THE OFFICE DOOR. Please feel free to use it.

VISITATION FOR HOSPITALIZED PATIENTS DURING THIS TIME, WE ASK THAT YOU NOT VISIT YOUR HORSE DURING ITS HOSPITAL STAY, WITH CERTAIN EXCEPTIONS.

As we always do, we will communicate your horses' status to you regularly. You can trust we will take great care of them!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AS WE ALL NEGOTIATE THIS MOST DIFFICULT TIME.

We greatly value all of you and your horses. Please be safe.
